BROOKLYN DRINKS

So, lets be honest here, living in NYC ain't cheap. And its hot, humid, and sticky right now too! Thank gosh Bodegas abound....drink of choice these days is an upgrade to Sparks: FOUR LOKO. The equivalent of four american beers and two american redbulls will cost ya $2.75 at my local bodega, and $2.50 further into Bushwick. Either way its fun! Welcome to summer: come drink on the roof!

TIFFANY NOTES

Assembly New York

Pulling over to the side of the street again. Mike asks me to come into this Boutique: Assembly New York. The boutique is raw and rustic. Exposed brick, dim lighting and subdued dark colors sets the tone for casual grace. A few pieces for woman but this store is for the boys. Greg Armas the owner carries meticulous fine metal jewelry, worn vintage Levis, and a large carefully selected array of mens shoes in classic shapes. But this is not the beauty of the store. It is in the luxurious fabrics, cuts and surprising details of Greg's own well crafted designs.

A friendly hardworking man, Greg lent Mike one of his suits to wear for the night. Mike was asked to shoot at Mandela Day and escort Chilean Celebrity Actress Catalina Pulido to the event. And Greg gave me some tips for buying fabrics in NYC. Thank you

TIFFANY NOTES

Brad Kahlhamer

I met Brad Kahlhamer yesterday morning driving after hanging a cafe show with Mike Mabes. He swerves to hit a man almost. It is just a friend of his. As Mike gets iced coffees Brad and I discuss his preparations for his next painting project, Calgary Art Scene, and the Glenbow museum.

He was on his way home from the gym questioning how much to spend on paints here and have shipped or if he should be ready to purchase paint in Paris. He will be painting in a small town 3 hours from Paris where a famous painter used to live, but since I cannot remember any of the most important details maybe Friday if I see him and his band play I can ask. Oh and he is one of Deitch Projects artists and the Glenbow Museum has been asking for his work.

Mike hauls over a chunk of sidewalk steel from Prince and Elisabeth. Loads it into the Jeep and Brad suggests having it made into jewelry.

THE TRAIN CROSSING

Canada Day 2009

LET'S ALL BREAK SOME SHIT!

First, let me express that I do not like Dave Eggers. I’m also not a fan of McSweeneys. Or Wholphin. I don’t mean to offend anyone who is, I’m just not. At all. So don’t get the wrong idea.

That being said, check out this preview of a short film to be featured on the newest release of Wholphin, McSweeney’s video magazine. The Eggman himself directed this little gem, in which James Franco destroys a bedroom for 32 real-time minutes. Here’s the 50 second preview:

Is this art? No, not really. Is it virtually impossible not to watch a man alone in a room, ripping it apart from top to bottom? Kind of. Did I just end a sentence with a preposition? Yup.

SLAYER

I learned early on in life that people are particular about their drinks, mostly about their caffeinated ones. I've grown an even larger knowledge base on this subject since becoming a barista and soon get to divulge this knowledge on a truly artisanal, epic espresso machine.
SLAYER!

seriously, this thing makes me giddy, even without drinking it's product.

SKATE OR DIE

The Summer has brought great weather, unemployment (know anyone who needs an art/studio manager?), and a lot of shredding. I am determined to learn to ride shortboard, and, although my knees are feelin the pain, my heart is bursting, i recommend everyone just go skate.

FOR LACK OF A BETTER TERM: "HEARTLESS"...

Found via Iain Tait’s blog about things, crackunit.com is this fantastic video for the Gnarls Barkley track Whos Gonna Save My Soul.

Directed by American Chris Milk, he has also directed music videos for the likes of Kanye West, U2 and Green Day. He was also awarded the Music Video Production Association Award for Music Video Director of the Year last year.

iPRESSIONISM

Technodork. Megageek. Yes, sadly these terms all apply to me. I'm in love with all things iPhone/iTouch. When I'm not playing Flight Control, I'm probably tapping my way through a book in Stanza
whilst getting my fill of the latest tracks from The Juan MacLean. Mulitaskurbation at its finest.

All Inspector Gadgetry aside, is the ability to create using cool tools available on the iPhone going to change the world? Hard to say. 10 years ago you'd likely be wondering if 'blogs' were as contagious as Herpes (they are), and today you're reading one. I was intrigued to read about a new generation of artists creating mini masterpieces on the go. Even the New Yorker is getting on board. The image above is the work of artist Mathew Watkins, drawn using his tactile little fingers and thumbs atop the dim luminescence of a $300 piece of metal, silicon, plastic and glass.

UP 2200% IN POPULARITY THIS WEEK

One of my all time favourite things is Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. I fell in love with the Disney film when I was about 10 (scared to shit of it before that, I'm sure) and shortly after found the book to be much more involved and includes not only an EPIC game of chess, but a goat and a boat and a metamorphosing baby (pig). I'm utterly delighted at the idea that Tim Burton is making a new live action version of the film in 3-D for spring next year. If he stays as true to story as he did for his Charlie and the Chocolate Factory remake, I'm sure that I'll be stoked on this new version (as long as there's no oompa-loompa ridiculous singing intervals...). I'm also optimistic of this man's powers bringing Disney to life again in a new form. People say that his films can be too dark for kids, but you tell me what you thought of the witch in sleeping beauty when you were 7 and tell m it's not good for the tykes to pee their pants in their matinee screenings...

Can't Wait!!!
